21 FEB – 15 MAR 2026
On the occasion of ARCO and the parallel activities of Art Week, OBLIQUO presents Rebellions, a video installation by Argentine artist Gabriela Golder. The exhibition, curated by Mario Gutiérrez Cru, is produced in collaboration with Rolf Art (Buenos Aires) and once again counts on the support of PROYECTOR.
Rebellions (2022) proposes a contemporary reading in moving image of the lithograph La internacional (1935) by Guillermo Facio Hebequer, one of the most emblematic representations of popular outcry and collective gestures of revolt. Raised flags, bodies in tension—an image that has traversed cultures, periods, and contexts, becoming fixed as an icon within our visual memory. Against this symbolic crystallization, Gabriela Golder shifts attention toward time and the fragility of the gesture when it is set back into motion.
The work unfolds through an extreme slowing down of action. The frozen gesture expands, fragments, and becomes humanized, allowing multiple moments—usually absent from the epic of political imagery—to emerge. The absence of sound intensifies this temporal suspension, focusing the experience on corporeality, breathing, and the affective dimension of collective action. Here, deceleration operates not as an aesthetic device, but as a critical strategy to recover the density of struggle and its shared condition.
Far from historical reconstruction or nostalgic citation, Rebellions reinscribes the icon into a new action, expanding its symbolic power and displacing it into the present. The performers—workers from recuperated factories and actors from community theatre groups—introduce a crucial layer of meaning, anchoring the piece in lived experiences of organization, resistance, and collective labour. The gesture ceases to belong exclusively to the archive of political representation and once again becomes body, sustained effort, and duration.
Gabriela Golder’s practice consistently inhabits a space of friction between memory, identity, institutional violence, and the world of labour. Working primarily with moving image, her work constructs dispositifs that do not seek to illustrate conflict, but to generate conditions of perception in which the viewer is ethically and affectively implicated. Rebellions condenses this line of inquiry, proposing an experience that challenges both our visual culture and our ways of looking at—and inhabiting—images of revolt.
The collaboration with Rolf Art, a Buenos Aires–based gallery specializing in technical image and contemporary Latin American visual production, reinforces the dialogue between OBLIQUO and contexts of creation in which formal and political dimensions of the image are inseparable.

REBELIONES proposes a contemporary reading of the lithograph «La internacional» (1935), by the artist Guillermo Facio Hebequer (1889, Montevideo – 1935, Buenos Aires). How many fluttering flags were the punctum in the representation of a popular clamour? Images that have become icons, images that have crystallised in our visual culture, gestures of revolt. Gabriela Golder tries to go beyond the performativity of this gesture frozen in time that transcends cultures, epochs and contexts. The artist seems to be concerned with the immobility of icons and seeks to expand their power by reinscribing them in a new action. The gesture in movement as a form of humanisation and collective affectation. The slowing down of action as a strategy to recover infinite instants of struggle.
The work is performed by workers from recovered factories and actors from community theatre groups.

GABRIELA GOLDER | STATEMENT
Encompassing cinema, video, installation, photography, and graphics, Gabriela Golder’s artistic work delves into historical and contemporary socio-political events, drawing inspiration from personal experiences and collective histories. Her work develops visual storytelling strategies at the intersection of history and micro-narratives, combining documentary, conceptual, and graphic practices, questioning and challenging the power structures and prevailing systems that shape our society. The journey is cyclical and situated. Her works point to the traces of memory on bodies. From memory strategies. From historical marks. From labor and workers. From collective constructions, social inventions. From institutional violence. From resistance. From words and the logic of survival.
